Security measures to be stepped up ahead of Christmas

DHAKA, Dec 23 (BSS)- Security measures will be beefed up from tomorrow in the capital and elsewhere in the country to ensure peaceful celebration of the Christmas, the biggest religious festival of the Christians.

Law enforcers, including police and RAB, will be deployed in large numbers at churches, its adjacent areas and other Christian majority places across the country to ensure security, RAB and police officials said today.

Members of law enforcement agencies will also remain alert at Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka Sheraton, Dhaka Radisson and Dhaka Westin where parties featuring carols, games and dance performances marking Christmas will be held, they said.

Christians in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world will celebrate December 25 as Christmas Day commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh as in many other countries.

Marking the carnival, Christians will offer special prayers in churches.
