DHAKA, Dec 31 (BSS) - The year 2011, which dawned with a hope of prosperity and many other enthusiasms, has gone onto oblivion making many goods and odds, joy and sorrow for the countrymen.
In our political landscape, the year 2011 was a new start amid beginning of the trial of the war criminals and taking many auspicious decisions by the parliament as it ushered in immense hope and aspiration for people for their economic betterment as well as social and political stability.
The year 2011 will be remembered as a year of economic and political progress and giving democracy a further strength by dissolving the caretaker government system.
The government over the last one-year inspired the people for a vision for economic development and building a digital country based on information technology.
The government also has taken many epoch-making measures to revive energy and communication sectors, augmenting food production and developing rural economy.
Leaving all odds behind, people welcomed the 2012, with new hopes and aspiration.
President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greeted the countrymen on the eve of the New Year and wished their peace, happiness and prosperity in the coming year.
President Zillur Rahman said celebration of the New Year is an integral part of our national culture. "The Gregorian calendar has immense influence on our life as we use the calendar in our daily life", he said.
"On this day we should renew our pledges to go ahead to our golden future leaving behind all failures and fatigues", Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said wishing progress and prosperity in the national as well as individual life.
Different socio-political organizations also greeted the countrymen on the eve of the new year 2012.
