DESCO introduces online application system for new connections
 
DHAKA, Feb 23 (BSS)-Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) today introduced online application system for new power connections.

Prime Minister's Energy Affairs Adviser Dr Toufiq-e-Ehali Chowdhury formally inaugurated the online system at Bidyut Bhaban on Abdul Ghani Road in the city.

After the function, the adviser told journalists that the government has a plan to increase prices of all types of gas barring the CNG (compressed natural gas).

The prices would be increased in next two months, he said, adding that the price hike is necessary to check misuse of gas.

Speaking at the DESCO function, Dr Toufiq-e-Ehali said the online application system would also be introduced at all power distribution companies by June this year.

He hoped that the online applicants would get new power connects within one month of applying.

The function was told that the applicants would be given PIN numbers and code numbers through which they would be able to know about progress of getting new connections.

Presided over by DESCO Chairman Mozammel Hossain, the function was also addressed by Power Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad and Additional Secretary Taposh Kumar Roy.

DESCO Managing Director M Manjur Rahman made a power point presentation on the current power distribution system and future plans.

DESCO supplies electricity to city's Mirpur, Banani, Uttara and Gulshan areas.
