Hanif urges govt to refrain BNP from destructive programmes

DHAKA, Mar 09 (BSS)- Awami League joint general secretary and Prime Minister's special assistant Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif today urged the government to refrain the main opposition BNP from destructive activities on its the planned "Dhaka March" programme of March 12.

"Impose a ban on all the destructive programmes of the opposition including its March 12 programme. Otherwise, the BNP may tarnish the country's independence and sovereignty resorting to destructive programmes," he said.

Hanif made the call while speaking at a representative's meeting of Dhaka City 14-party alliance at the central office of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) at Bangabandhu Avenue. The meeting was organised to make the human chain programme of the 14-party alliance on March 11 a success.

JSD leader Meer Hossain Akhter chaired the meeting that was also addressed by JSD president Hasanul Huq Inu, MP, Dhaka City
Awami League general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya (Bir Bikram), Awami League central leader Enamul Huq Shamim, state minister for law Advocate Kamrul Islam, Workers Party general secretary Anisur Rahman Mallick, Ganatantri Party general secretary Nurur Rahman Selim, JSD central leader Shirin Akhter, Dhaka City AL leaders Haji Md Selim, Awlad Hossain, Shahe Alam Murad and Aslamul Huq Aslam, MP.

Hanif alleged that the opposition was not only launching aggressive political programmes in its bid to save the war criminals but it has also adopted propaganda tactics to push the government in a precarious position.

Expressing his deep shock at the recent killings of the journalist couple and a Saudi diplomat, he said that the opposition has been shifting the blame of the killings on the shoulders of the government to achieve political gains out of it.

Hanif added that the security of the foreign diplomats is being hampered as the Gulshan office of the BNP is located in the diplomatic zone.

The special assistant to the Prime Minister also alleged that the BNP was working as the agent of Pakistan. He added that the BNP has launched the programme of March 12 in its bid to foil the trail of the war criminals at the dictates of Pakistan. "There is a deep-rooted conspiracy behind its programme," Hanif said stressing the need for forging a broad based unity of the pro- liberation forces to face the conspiracy.

"The opposition leader has taken money for the national elections from the intelligence agency of Pakistan (ISI), whom we defeated in the War of Liberation in 1971," the Awami League leader said adding that the nation wants to know as to why money had been taken from them. He also alleged that the BNP is being financed and run by Pakistan.

Hasanul Huq Inu said the government can not be overthrown how big or small public rally the BNP organises in the capital on March 12. He said the government can not be toppled even a day before its five-year tenure expires.

Inu called upon the BNP to desert Jamaat and said, "Desert the anti-liberation force Jamaat to strengthen the country's democracy and extend cooperation to the government to try the war criminals."
