DHAKA, March 15 (BSS)- A High Court bench today summoned Prof Dr Asif Nazrul of Dhaka University for his 'instigating' remarks on a TV Talk-Show in Bangla Vision and also asked to explain his conduct appearing before the court at 10.30am on March 22.
The HC bench, comprising Justices A H M Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Jahangir Hossain, has passed the order responding to the writ petition filed by Barrister Md Nowsher Ali against Dr Asif Nazrul.
Writ petitioner Barrister Nawser Ali argued that such type of remarks was tantamount to provoking undemocratic forces to grab state power.
The HC bench issued a rule asking him and several senior civil servants to explain why Dr Nazrul should not be charged with sedition and punished for his comment that "instigated the undemocratic forces and confused country's people."
The court also asked home secretary, law secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner and Asif Nazrul to respond to the rule within two weeks.
On the TV talk-show on March 12, Asif Nazrul, replying to question, said, "If you ask opposition leader that who would come to power next, she (Khaleda) would answer 'a third force; on the contrary if you ask the Prime Minister, she (Sheikh Hasina) would also say 'a third force'."
