President urges children to become `Sonar Manush'
 
DHAKA, March 17 (BSS)-President Zillur Rahman today urged children to build themselves as `Sonar Manush (golden men)' as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to make the county's independence meaningful.

Referring to Bangabandhu's quote `Sonar Manush are needed to
build Sonar Bangla (Golden Bangla)', President Rahman said
Bangabandhu had meant honest, skilled, talented people with good
character by Sonar Manus.

"It's expected that you would build yourself as worthy
citizen through your behavior, thinking, works and acquired
knowledge," he said while inaugurating the function of `National
Children Day-2012' on the 92nd Birth Anniversary of Bangabandhu,
organized by Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela at Darbar Hall of
Bangabhaban.

Zillur Rahman laid emphasized on presenting the true history
of the Great War of Liberation as well as country's rich
tradition before the young generation to instill patriotism in
them.

"It's our responsibility to build the young generation in the
spirit of War of Liberation," he said

The President said children will feel proud of knowing the
glorious history of the country's Great War of Liberation and
from which they will be able to perceive their responsibilities
towards the country and the people.

The President hoped that the young generation would know
about lifestyle and works of the great architect of the country's
independence Bangabandhu as well as his immense contribution to
the independence of the country through various programmes of the
children day.

Recalling that Bangabandhu declared the independence on March
26 in 1971 and the country achieved its independence after nine
months of bloody war and supreme sacrifice of 30 lakh martyrs,
the President said the young generation would have to contribute
in making the hard earned independence meaningful.

Chief adviser of the Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela Iqbal
Sobhan Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.

Later, President Zillur Rahman formally inaugurated the
programmes of National Children Day-2011 by cutting a cake with
the children of Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela.

Advisers and organisers of Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela
including Awami League Presidium Member Advocate Yusuf Hossain
Humayun, vice chancellor of the Dhaka University Professor Dr ASM
Arefin Siddiqui, Sarah Begum Kabari, MP, and media personality
Kha Ma Harun were also present on the occasion.
