DHAKA, March 20 (BSS) -The High Court today instructed the government to submit the progress report into the journalist couple murder case before the court within March 22.
A High Court bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Alam today passed this order as the government did not reply to a rule nishi served on the government within the scheduled time.
Sagar Sarwar, News Editor of Maachranga Television and Mehrun Runi, a Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla were brutally murdered by miscreants at the West Rajabazar residence on February 11 last. Younger brother of Runi, filed a murder case with Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Thana police accusing unknown killers. The Detective Branch (DB) of police has been investigating the case.
The High Court on February 28 issued a rule upon the government following a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB). The court also wanted to know from the government as to why the government would not be instructed for nabbing the killers of the journalist couple. In the rule, the court instructed the Home and Information Secretaries, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Director General of RAB, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the DB and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Thana to reply the rule with in two weeks but they did not comply the court order.
The Court today asked Deputy Attorney General (DAG) ABM Altaf Hossain why the government did not reply the rule. The DAG told the court that they yet to receive the copy of the judgment. |
