DHAKA, March 25 (BSS) - President Zillur Rahman today urged all concerned to make the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) as a centre of excellence in solving national issues through discussion.
"I am confident that all irrespective of party affiliations would play responsible role in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the countrymen," he said in a message on the eve of the Great Independence and National Day.
Expressing his satisfaction that the countrymen love democracy, the President said without institutionalization of democracy, the overall development would not be possible.
"Patience, forbearance at all levels as well as show respects to other's opinion in a democratic pluralism must be maintained," he said.
President Rahman urged all living at home and abroad to work together imbued with the spirit of the War of Liberation to expedite economic self-reliance and democratic advancement of the country.
He said the present government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared 'Vision 2021' with a view to attaining 'Golden Bangla' dreamt by Bangabandhu.
"I believe that the people from all strata of life would contribute to build an IT-based happy and prosperous Bangladesh by materializing the 'Vision' at the Golden Jubilee of Independence in 2021."
Terming the historic Independence Day as a glorious day in the national life, the President said one of the prime objectives of our hard-earned Independence was to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
Keeping that in mind, he said, the Government is rendering untiring efforts in materializing the objectives of Independence.
With the span of time, Zillur Rahman said, "We have achieved some significant progresses in the field of agriculture, education, health, rural infrastructure, communication, ICT, youth, women and children, women empowerment etc at national level.
The government is also very sincere to establish rule of law, human rights in the country and institutionalize democracy, the President said, adding, "Our achievement at international arena is also praiseworthy."
Despite attaining the progress, Zillur Rahman said, "Yet, we have to go long way for achieving the desired goals of independence. I believe concerted efforts from all are imperative in this regard."
Recalling that the country's independence had been achieved through nine-month long armed struggle and immense sacrifices of lives in 1971, the President expressed his utmost respect and paid deep homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War and also prayed for the salvation of those immortal souls.
The President also recalled with profound respect the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who proclaimed the country's Independence on March 26 in 1971.
"Responding to his clarion call, people from all walks of life participated in the War of Liberation and achieved victory through armed struggle," he said.
The President also recalled with deep respect the four national leaders, valiant freedom-fighters and organizers who rendered their dedicated efforts and enthusiastic support that accelerated the great victory.
Besides, he also remembered Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque, Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy and Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani for their immense contributions towards inspiring the people at various stages of struggle.
The President said the contributions of those valiant sons of the soil would be ever written in the history of our Independence.
On the occasion, President Zillur Rahman conveyed his heartfelt greetings and felicitations to the countrymen living at home and abroad.
