Call for forging greater unity among journalists for welfare
RAJSHAHI, April 11 (BSS)- Forging greater unity among the working journalists has become indispensable for their welfare side by side with protecting them from all sorts of uncertainty, repressions and killings.

In this regard, they said various opportunists and selfish groups are daring to attack and kill the professional journalists for gaining their ill motives.

They were addressing the installation ceremony of the newly executive body of Rajshahi Journalists Welfare Fund (RJWF) at
Master Chef in Rajshahi city yesterday.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, who addressed the session as the chief guest, termed the journalism profession as risky and the rate of risks has gradually been rising due to various reasons.

In this regard, he mentioned that there is no way but to be
united for making their professional fields more strengthened.

Besides, he said many of the professional journalists face financial hardship in their old age. So, the welfare trust is very effective and beneficial for addressing the financial constraint.

He assured his all possible cooperation towards bolstering
the welfare fund in the days ahead.

Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Abdul Mannan, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Hannan, former President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammad Ali Sarker, RJWF Secretary General Rejaul Karim and Treasurer Akbarul Hassan Millat also spoke at the meeting chaired by RJWF Chairman Liakat Ali.

Mayor Liton said the journalists have been playing a vital
role in nation-building process through their objective reporting. The objective reporting is very important to lead the state machinery on the right track and laid stress on the need of playing a responsible role by all quarters so that the nation could be taken forward, he added.

He viewed that both the print and electronic media depict reliable information through regular reporting and emphasised the need on constructive criticism about the irregularities and wrongdoing side by side with appreciation of the good works.

Marking the occasion, three journalists were accorded reception posthumously. They are Abdus Samad, Monzurul Haque and Shah Anisur Rahman.
