DHAKA, April 11 (BSS) - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre (PTWC) and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued an alert that a Tsunami is likely to affect the coast of Bangladesh at 2251 BST, according to a bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In the Tsunami bulletin, the Met Office also advised the related agencies to be watchful from 1500 BST up to midnight for the sake of precaution and safety of the costal people.
The bulletin may further be updated based on the information received from PTWC and JMA, said the bulletin signed by
Meteorologist of BMT S.M. Mahmudul Haque.
A mild earthquake was felt in Dhaka city and different parts of the country at 2.38 pm today.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at Sumatra in Indonesia where it was measured at 8.7 on the Richter scale, a Met office sources said.
However the magnitude of the earthquake in Bangladesh was not available till writing of this report.
Meanwhile repots available from abroad said Tsunami warning has been issued for the Coastal region in Indonesia and adjoining coastal areas of India and Bay of Bengal.
