International Crimes Tribunal Act amended

DHAKA, April 11 (BSS) - President M Zillur Rahman today signed into law an ordinance amending the International Crimes Tribunal Act 1973 allowing transfer of cases from one tribunal to another, if required, for their faster disposal.

According to an official statement, under the amendment an International Crimes Tribunal could transfer on its own imitative or on prayers from the chief prosecutor to another such tribunal if required for the sake of convenience to ensure justice in the cases of "crimes against humanity" committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

The amendment came a month after a second tribunal was constituted to try the 1971 war crimes.
