DHAKA, April 15 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today apprised President Zillur Rahman of cooperation between Bangladesh and Malaysia in constructing the Padma Bridge by paying a call on him at Bangabhaban this evening.
The Premier also informed the President that the Malaysian government had recently given legal work permission to nearly three lakh expatriate Bangladeshi workers there.
During the meeting, Zillur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina exchanged greetings of Bangla New Year and enquired about well- being of each other.
The Prime Minister apprised the President of her recent Turkey visit during which Dhaka and Ankara signed seven instruments to bolster relations in economic, cultural, agricultural and other fields.
Sheikh Hasina informed Zillur Rahman that the Turkish government is keen to provide its all out support for socio- economic development of Bangladesh, especially for improving infrastructure and setting up electric lines as well as gas pipeline.
President Rahman lauded the Prime Minister's role in the Padma Bridge issue. The President thanked the Prime Minister for making her Turkish visit a success.
Later, the Prime Minister joined a reception hosted by the President at Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban marking the Bangla Nababarsha (Bengali New Year).
Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, ministers, advisers to the prime minister, state ministers, parliament members, chiefs of three services, national professors, national award recipients, cultural personalities, poets, writers and journalists and high civil and military officials attended the reception.
The President and Prime Minister exchanged New Year's greetings with the guests.
A colorful cultural function was organized by the Shilpakala Academy under the Cultural Affairs Ministry. Leading artistes of the country presented songs at the function.
