RANGPUR, Apr 15 (BSS) - US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan W Mozena today said he sees bright and prosperous future Bangladesh in the children of the country.
The US wants to see the next general elections in Bangladesh with the participation of all political parties and hoped that the major political parties of the country would come to a consensus though discussions among them, he said.
Mozena was distributing nutritious biscuits among students of DA Chilmari Government Primary School under School Feeding Programme (SFP) of the World Food Programme (WFP) and answering questions raised by the journalists in Chilmari upazila town of Kurigram district.
Earlier, Dan W Mozena landed at Zorgach River Ghat in Chilmari river port on the Brahmaputra water by a seaplane in the morning along with Representative of the WFP Christa Rudder.
Chilmari upazila chairman Shawakat Ali Sarker Bir Bikram, UNO Mamun-Ul- Hassan, School Programme Associate of WFP Pranab Kumar Dey, Director of RDRS Bangladesh Azizul Karim and its Project Coordinator for SFP Azizul Haque received him.
The USA envoy visited the school near Ramna union parishad office in Chilmari upazila and talked to the teachers and students and distributed nutritious biscuits among the students of the institution.
The biscuits contain adequate vitamins and minerals and are quite different from the common ones to meet nutritional demands of the children in making them stronger in the process of building a healthier Bangladesh, he said.
"I, along with the American people, am feeling nice for providing these biscuits to the children of Bangladesh," Mozena told the journalists after visiting the school adding that the USA has contributed 58 million US dollars to the WFP since 2002.
Local officials informed the media workers that some 22,000
students of 90 primary level schools under all six unions in Chilmari upazila in Kurigram district alone have been brought under the SFP of the WFP.
