DHAKA April 17 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today summoned deputy commissioner of detective branch (south) and investigation officer to appear before it tomorrow as no significant progress was made into journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi murder.
A HC bench comprising Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order upon a writ petition.
Deputy Attorney General ABM Altaf Hossain placed the report of investigation into the murder, which was submitted earlier in line with HC order, before the bench. After seeing the report the court expressed dismay over it and issued the order.
Petitioner lawyer Advocate Manjil Morshed said, "Nothing on progress of investigation into the matter was said in the report submitted before the HC."
"I told the court that such IO have no right to stay," he said adding that none of the accused was yet arrested.
"The HC expressed dissatisfaction over progress report of the investigation," he also said.
In his submission Deputy Attorney General ABM Altaf Hossain told the court the progress report has already been submitted before the HC and efforts are still on to capture the culprits involved in the murder.
The HC on February 28 issued a rule asking why order will not be issued to bring the culprits to book and to detect the motive behind the murder. It also asked Inspector General of Police to submit the progress report of the investigation into the murder on March 22.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of a private TV channel Maasranga and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter of another private TV channel ATN Bangla were found murdered at their rented flat at West Rajabazar on February 10.
