DHAKA, April 27, 2013 (BSS) -Police early today detained owners of two garment factories and wife of the owner of Rana Plaza at Savar in connection with the Wednesday's building collapse.
Confirming the arrests, State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku this morning told journalists that seven people, including two garment factory owners and wife of Sohel Rana, the owner of collapsed building, have been arrested so far.
He added: "The drive to arrest the owner of eight-storey Rana Plaza, which housed five garment factories, one bank and some other establishments, is going on."
Our Savar correspondent reports: Law enforcement agencies have arrested seven people in connection with the Rana Plaza collapse that killed over 300 people and many more feared trapped under the debris of the damaged building.
Savar police in an over night drive detained the factory owners-Bazlur Rahman and Mahmudur Rahman- and Sohel Rana's wife Mitu Akter, 25, from Savar municipality area.
Dhaka Additional Superintendent of Police Shaymol Kumar Mukharjee said they picked up Mitu from her father's house at Shahibagh of Savar municipality at about 1.00am for interrogation.
Earlier, the police detained Sohel Rana's cousin Jahangir Hossain, his wife Munni Begum and Anwar Hossain from Poddarpara village of Manikganj district.
The rescue campaign was going at the scene till filing the report at 11am.
