BCL files Tk. 100 crore defamation case, Farroque summoned by Rangpur court
 
RANGPUR, Mar 18 (BSS) - A court here today summoned Opposition Chief Whip Zainal Abdin Farroque in a Taka 100-crore defamation case filed against him for making baseless and false statements against Sajib Wajed Joy, the brightest son of Rangpur.

Roy summoned the accused after hearing of the case filed by Vice
President of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League
(BCL) Jashem Bin Hossain Jummon.

The court took the case into cognizance under sections 500
and 506 and ordered the accused to appear before the court on
April 19 next after hearing on the case.

Senior Lawyers Advocate MA Basher Tipu, Advocate Rothish
Chandra Bhowmik, Advocate Khairul Alam, Advocate SM Shibli and
other lawyers took part in the hearing on behalf of the plaintiff
in the crowded court room.

In his petition, the plaintiff said that the accused made
completely baseless and false allegations against Joy at a press
conference at his residence in Dhaka on March 12 last to damage
the image of internationally reputed personality Joy.

It said that the baseless allegations were widely broadcast
by the electronic and print media damaging image of ruling party
Awami League, its all front organizations, Sajib Wajed Joy and
his family members and the people and country at home and abroad.

The petitioner said that Joy is a polite, gentle, selfless
and highly educated person with unquestioned patriotism and love
for the countrymen and spotless moral character having enormous
reputation both at home and abroad.

Basing on the needs of the time and huge demand, hopes and
aspirations of the country people for the leadership of Joy, he
has been involved now with the politics of Awami League from
Rangpur, the petitioner mentioned.

The plaintiff's lawyers in their deliberations said that the
baseless remarks of the accused have severely damaged and hurt
the image and reputation of the country's best son Joy, the
people of Rangpur and the country as a whole and appealed for
justice.

After filing the case, plaintiff Jashem Bin Hossain Jummon
in his reaction told BSS on the court premises that Joy is the
national hope and aspiration and people of the country and the
world as a whole are proud of Joy, the future leader of
Bangladesh.

"I hope that I, along with the people of the country will
get justice and the accused person will get proper punishment for
making false and baseless allegations against Joy," he added.

Huge number of BCL leaders including its district secretary
Fakhrul Hassan Lieu, Muhaimenul Suman, Rezaul Islam, Rafiuz
Islam, Yusuf Ali Bappi, Yunus Ali, Kazi Atikul Islam, Shafiur
Rahman Swadhin, Mahfuzur Rahman, Sadekur Rahman, Rafiur Rahman,
Abu Sufian, Kawser Alam, and Mahmudul Hassan, were present.
