DHAKA, Mar 13 (BSS) - Dhaka stocks today maintained an upward trend for the second consecutive day with substantial rise in the benchmark index and relatively higher turnover.
The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the day at 4523.71, up by 173.24 points or 3.98 percent over yesterday's closing. The daily turnover increased to taka 316 crore from Monday's taka 142 crore.
The gainers heavily outnumbered the losing issues on active buying from investors who were seemingly busy to book shares for profit-taking. Prices of only eight issues declined on the day when the phenomenal number of gaining issues was 249.
Summit Power hit the top position of the day's top 20 most traded issues on price ceiling- free trading after its corporate disclosure. The company on Monday announced 25 percent stock dividend, attracting people in buying over 27 lakh shares in a single day.
Beximco, GP, United Air, Titas Gas, Beximco Pharma, MI Cement, Keya Cosmetic, Jumuna Oil and RN Spinning were also among top 20 trading issues.
The gainers were from textile, insurance, food and financial sectors when the major losing issues included banking, corporate bond, textile, jute, food and chemical sectors.
