DHAKA, April 05 (BSS) - The third 'Bangladesh Industrial and Engineering Technology Tradeshow (BIET-2012)' began in the city today to display the latest technological advancements of light industrial and engineering equipments of local and foreign companies.
Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners Association (BEIOA) and Light Engineering Product Business Promotion Council under the Ministry of Commerce are jointly organising the four-day exposition at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).
Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud formally inaugurated the fair with Bangladesh Engineering Owners Association president Abdur Razzaque in the chair.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Hasan Mahmud said the fair will contribute more in further development of the country's light engineering sector and boost local entrepreneur's confidence with sharing experiences with participating foreign companies from India and china.
Referring to the different solar-based products displaying at the tradeshow, the minister said, using of solar power, a major source of renewable energy, can meet the country's growing energy demand adequately and save scarce of foreign currency.

About Solar Auto Rickshaw for which 70 percent of spare parts are locally made, he said it's an exportable item and asked entrepreneurs to find out its markets outside the country side by side with local one.
BEIOA president Abdur Razzak said light engineering products worth Taka 20,000 providing this sector contributes a lot by providing one percent in the country's GDP.
A total of 100 local, Indian and Chinese companies are participating at the exposition.
The fair will remain open to public from 10:00am to 8:00pm until Sunday.
