Victory Day observed in Gaibandha
 
GAIBANDHA, Dec 17 (BSS)- The great Victory Day was observed in the district on Friday in a befitting manner, with due respect and taking fresh vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.

In observance of the day, district administration, various cultural organizations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out the programmes.

The day's programme began through placing wreaths by district administration, police department, district Muktijodha Sangshad, district AL, district BNP, Jatiya party and other political parties, district BMA, educational institutions and socio- cultural organizations at the monument of the Poura Park in the town at midnight at 12.01 am.

The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at the time of sun rising and national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings just after sunrise.

Later, an impressive march past by police, ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students of Shishu Paribar, schools and colleges was held here at the local stadium at 8.30 am.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Shahidul Islam and superintendent of police (SP) Bashudev Banik took salute as the chief guest and special guest respectively.

Later, a reception was accorded to the freedom fighters and the members of martyred families at the auditorium of Zilla Parishad (ZP) of the town at 11.30 am with deputy commissioner M. Shahidul Islam in the chair.

Local lawmaker Mahbub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest and SP Bashudev Banik, chief executive officer of ZP Kallol Kumar Chakrabartee and commander of district Muktijodha Sangshad Nazmul Arefin Tareque were present as the special guests.

The programmes also included children's art and essay writing competitions on Liberation war organized by Bangladesh Shishu Academy, documentary film show arranged by District Information Office, charity football match between district administration eleven and Gaibandha Pourasabha, arrangement of sports and games for the women by Mohila Krira Sangstha and holding of blood donation camp by Shandhani Donor Club.

Apart from this, special prayers were offered in mosques and temples and improved diets were also served in the hospitals, jail and orphanages.

In the evening, a discussion meeting on the Liberation War organized by district administration was held at the auditorium of District Shilpakala Academy (DSA) in the town.

Later, a cultural function was also held on the occasion. The artistes of DSA rendered songs at the function.
