RAJSHAHI, Mar 15 (BSS)- The regional office of the Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institutions (BSTI) has expedited drives against the marketing of fruits mixed with formalin and other harmful chemical preservatives and fined around Taka 70,000 in different areas in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions during the last couple of days.
According to the officials concerned, the BSTI with assistance of the respective district administration conducted 25 mobile courts in different district and upazila markets of the two divisions particularly Rajshahi, Natore, Chapainawabgonj, Dinajpur, Nilphammari, Gaibandha and Pabna districts.
They lodged 30 cases against 25 business establishments on various charges like mixing of formalin in various high valued fruits like orange, grapes and cherry fruit and hydrous in molasses together with violation of the BSTIs rules and regulations.
The courts realized Taka 70,000 from the consumer shops as fine and disposed of the cases on the spot.
Besides, the mobile courts seized 842 kilograms of grapes, 30 kilograms of orange and 150 kilograms of molasses and destroyed those.
