Grassroots women leaders demand discrimination-free society
RANGPUR, March 21 (BSS) - Grassroots level women leaders at a conference here today demanded for a discrimination-free society with gender equity to enhance women emancipations in all socio-economic-political and policy-making activities.

They also stressed for smooth flourishing of women leadership and their equal participations at all levels by rooting out discriminations and violence being faced by womenfolk in the families, society and in every sphere of national life.

Sadar upazila unit of the Grassroots Women Leaders Network (GWLN) organised the conference titled 'Trinomul Nari Netri Sommelon- 2012' with the assistances of Nagorik Uddog (NU) at Town hall auditorium in the city.

Over 500 grassroots level women community leaders and activists, NGO executives, government officials, lawyers, educationists, students and professionals took part in the daylong conference.

Administrator of Rangpur Zila Parishad Advocate Rezina Razzaque addressed the conference as the chief guest with Sadar upazila unit President of GWLN Kalpona Rani Roy in the chair.

District unit President of Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Marhamatun Nesa, Programme Officer of District Women Affairs Department Kaisara Parveen, Assistant Information Officer Alamgir Kabir, General Secretary of Rangpur Press Club Mahbub Rahman, addressed as special guests.

The speakers lauded important roles being played by leaders of the GWLN in reducing repressions on women and children and eradicating social curses like dowry, divorce, polygamy for building a peaceful society and women empowerment.

The women leaders urged grassroots level women activists for remaining united with excellent intra-relations for improving
their leadership quality, knowledge and experience to ensure women rights and their greater access to every sphere of national life.

They demanded protection and promotion of the rights of the women and girl children, ensuring access to productive resources and encouraging equitable sharing of family responsibilities, food security and social empowerment in all spheres of life.
