RANGPUR, March 25 (BSS) - Bangladesh Muktijoddha Rehabilitation Society (BMRS) accorded warm receptions to 15 valiant freedom fighters (FFs), mother of the country's first martyr in March, 1971 and Birangona here last evening.
District unit command of BMRS arranged a colourful ceremony on the occasion at its office at Shikkhya and Sangskriti Kendra premises in the city on the eve of observing the Independence and National Day-2012.
Rangpur District Commander of BMRS and valiant FF Mozaffar Hossain Chand attended and addressed the reception ceremony as the chief guest with veteran FF Kamal Hossain Dilip in the chair.
Dipali Samaddar, mother of the country's first martyr on March 3 in 1971 Sangku Samaddar, 12, FF Syed Mohammad Shafi and FF Abdur Rouf Sarker, addressed as special guests.
Sangku was shot dead by Behari Sarfaraz Khan on March 3 in 1971 at 9.30 am while taking part in non-cooperation movement rally here and Bangabandhu mentioned the killing in his Historic March 7 speech at Race Course Maidan.
District Deputy Commander of BMRS FF Jalal Uddin Ahmed, FF Advocate Shafikul Islam Rotu and FF Dr Nazrul Islam also addressed the ceremony recalling the unprecedented heroism of the FFs, Birangonas and martyrs of the soil in 1971.
Later, the chief guest distributed crests among 12 awardees including martyr's mother Dipali Samaddar, Birangona Putul and 10 valiant FFs at the end of the ceremony.
