Rajshahi people celebrate Independence and National Day
 
RAJSHAHI, Mar 26 (BSS)- The Independence and National Day is being cerebrated in Rajshahi city and its adjacent areas today amidst much enthusiasm with a renewed call to expedite the ongoing trial against the war criminals.

Rajshahi City Corporation, divisional and district administrations besides various political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Rajshahi University chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.

The day's programmes began with heralding of 31 gun salutes at olice Line and placing of floral wreaths at the altar of the city's Shaheed Minars at the zero hours.

Paying rich tribute to the martyrs Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, placed floral wreaths at the altar of Bhuban Mohan Park Shaheed Minar while Panel Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation Shariful Islam Babu placed wreaths on behalf of the city corporation at Zero hours. Many other organizations like Muktijoddha Sangsad and different rganizations like educational institutions, political, social and cultural organizations followed them.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Mannan, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Hannan and other officials placed wreaths at the Collectorate Shaheed Minar while DIGP of Rajshahi Range Siddiqur Rahman, Commissioner of RMP Md Obaidulllah and SP SM Rokon Uddin placed wreaths at Police Line Shaheed Minar.

The programmes are also included hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, institutions, amusement rally, reception to the FFs and screening of documentary films at different cinema halls and other open places.

A combined march-past by the members of police, ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, scouts, girl guides, jail guards and students of different educational institutions and physical display attracted many people at district stadium in the morning.

Competition on arts, patriotic songs and poetry recitation were arranged for the students of school and college at the district Shishu Academy.

Improved diets were served among the inmates of hospitals, prison, safe homes, orphans and SOS.

Special prayers were offered at the city's mosques after zohr prayers and different other worships seeking divine blessings for
peace and progress of the nation.

Besides, all the city's important visiting spots and amusement places like Rajshahi University Smrity Sangrahashala, Varendra Research Museum, Central Zoo and Shishu Park remained open for the visitors throughout the day.
