RANGPUR, March 26 (BSS) - The Independence and National Day- 2012 is being celebrated amid much enthusiasm and festivity in Rangpur city through 3-day programmes from today with a stronger call for speedy trial of the war criminals.
The divisional, district and police administrations, Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL), its front organisations, political parties, pourashava and other organisations chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Day here from March 26 to 28.
The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes and
placing of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at Public Library
ground and Swadhinata Smritistambha `Arjan' and monuments of
martyred FFs in the divisional city at zero hours today.

The today's programmes included hoisting of the national flag
atop all government, semi- government, private and public
buildings, institutions, receptions to the FFs and family members
of the martyred FFs.
Colourful rallies, march past of police, Ansar- VDP, scouts,
girl guides, students of different institutions and children
organizations at Rangpur Stadium and screening of documentary
films at different cinema halls and other places were organised.
Sports competitions including shooting and Ha-Du-Du for men
and women, cultural functions and discussion meetings on the War
of Liberation with the participations of the FFs, historians,
academicians, professionals and women leaders were arranged.
Special prayers were offered at all places of worships
including mosques, temples, pagodas and churches and improved
diets served to the inmates of all hospitals, jails, vagabond
centres, shishu paribars and orphanages.
Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur Medical College, Carmichael
College, Begum Rokeya Government College, educational
institutions, socio- cultural, professional and political
organizations and NGOs observed the Day through various
The district administration will arrange the main discussion
meeting to focus the importance and significance of the Day and
colourful cultural function at the Central Shaheed Minar tomorrow
(March 27) evening in the city.
The administration and FFs will jointly arrange a huge rally
of the FFs and discussion meeting in remembrance of the heroism
of 600 martyred Rangpur people at Nishbetganj Bddhyabhumi
Smritisoudha 'Rakta Gaurab' to end the celebrations on March 28.
