Nation celebrates Independence Day with call for expediting trial of war criminals
 
DHAKA, March 26 (BSS) - The people of all levels celebrated the Independence and National Day in districts across the country today renewing their demand for expediting trial of those committed crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

To mark the day, they also took a fresh vow to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation and materialize the dreams of the valiant freedom fighters by building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

In Rajshahi, the Independence and National Day was cerebrated in the city and its adjacent areas today amidst much enthusiasm with a renewed call to expedite the ongoing trial against the war criminals.

Rajshahi City Corporation, divisional and district administrations besides various political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including Rajshahi University chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.

In Khulna, the Independence and National Day was observed with a vow to build a poverty and hunger-free prosperous Bangladesh.

The day's programmes began with heralding of 31 gun salutes on collectorate premises and plaching floral wreaths at Gollamari Independence memorial in the city.

Khulna City Corporation, divisional district administrations, different socio-political organizations arranged different programmes including reception to freedom fighters, discussions, rally, sport competitions and cultural function to observe the day.

In Mymensingh, district administration, different political parties including Awami League (AL) and socio-cultural organizations chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the Independence and National Day.

The day's programmes included discussions, cultural programmes and photography exhibitions by different organizations. The programmes began with placing of floral wreaths at Muktijuddha Smriti Saudha in the town.

In Rangpur, the Independence and National Day-2012 was celebrated amid much enthusiasm and festivity in Rangpur city with a stronger call for speedy trial of the war crimes.

The divisional, district and police administrations, Muktijoddha Sangshad, Awami League (AL), its front organisations, political parties, pourasabha and other organisations chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the Day here from March 26 to 28.

The observance began through heralding 31 gun salutes and placing of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at Public Library ground and Swadhinata Smritistambha `Arjan' and monuments of martyred FFs in the divisional city at zero hours today.

In Chittagong, the 42nd Independence and National Day was celebrated today in the port city as elsewhere in the district with a renewed pledge to expedite trial of the war criminals to free the nation from the long stigma and show respect to the memory of millions of martyrs.

Besides the government programmes, different political parties, their front organisations, educational institutions, professional and trade bodies as well as socio-cultural organizations celebrated the day with daylong programmes.

The day's programmes were heralded by a 31- gun salute from atop the court building at 12.01 am which was followed by playing of whistles simultaneously from the rails, steamers and vessels of the port.

The Independence and National Day-2012 also was celebrated in different districts including Gopalganj, Bagerhat, Lakkhipur, Jessore and Jamalpur through taking elaborate programmes.
