RANGPUR, April 7 (BSS)- Speakers at a views-exchange meeting here yesterday said the Marriage Registrars could play vital roles in preventing the social curse of child marriage for building a better society.
They stressed the need for launching vigorous social movement through creating mass public awareness to eradicate early marriage in the society.
Mithapukur upazila administration organised the meeting for the Marriage Registrars and public representatives of the upazila at its auditorium while UNO SM Sabu Horaira in the chair.
Headmaster of Mithapukur Model High School Shah Habib-E- Azam, Imadpur union Chairman Abu Tayeb Mandal, Mithapukur Press Club President Pradip Kumar Goswami, President of Mithapukur upazila Marriage Registrars' Association Abu Taleb, its Vice- president Abduallahel Baki and General Secretary Keramat Ali addressed, among others.
The speakers narrated the grievous impacts of child marriage, dowry, violence and repressions on the premature girls leading them to shattered and catastrophic lives destroying future.
They discussed the reasons behind early marriage that have engulfed the backward people in rural areas for decade's together creating unrest in the family life and the society as a whole.
As a result of child marriages, the rates of neonatal, maternal and children deaths are still higher in rural areas, they said.
At the end, the participant Marriage Registrars vowed for not registering any child marriage to free the area from the social curse in near future.
