Need for peoples-friendly health services stressed
RAJSHAHI, April 12 (BSS)- Ensuring peoples-friendly healthcare services among the public in general especially the rural poor and marginal communities is very essential as majority of the people live in the rural areas, said the speakers at a discussion here today.

To that end, they unequivocally called for making the rural level healthcare institutions more effective and peoples- oriented.

Population Services and Training Center (PSTC) under its Health Rights Project organized the discussion at the seminar hall of Rajshahi City Bhaban marking the World Health Day-2012.

On the occasion, IPS and Diathermia machines were distributed among three healthcare institutions to facilitate their services for welfare of the commoners.

Mayor of Rajshahi AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, who addressed the discussion as the chief guest, said the present government has reactivated the community clinics and recruited some 6000 doctors for providing health services to the rural people.

He, however, said the government endeavors aren't being implemented properly due to non-cooperation of the doctors and others concerned as they always show their apathy to stay in rural area and that is unfortunate for the nation.

Mayor Liton stated that the burden on the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital could be reduced to a greater extent if the rural level hospitals are activated properly through making the services of the doctors, nurses, technologists and others concerned transparent and accountable.

He urged the members of the clients associations to play their due role in this regard.

Besides, he said the service-providers should extend their wholehearted cooperation through performing their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government endeavor.
