RANGPUR, Apr 12 (BSS) - Members of the civil society at a daylong workshop yesterday called for eradicating gender discriminations to ensure equal rights of the women and flourishing talents for their empowerment.
Association for Social Organisations and Development (ASOD) organised the workshop for the civil society members under its Gender Social Protection and Human Rights Project at Balapara union parishad office in Kawnia upazila.
With Programme Organiser of the NGO Shapla Begum in the chair, local civil society member and noted social worker Akhter Hossain addressed the workshop as the chief guest.
Filed Organiser Selina Parveen of ASOD and its Committee Councilor Runa Begum discussed various gender-related issues and its grievous impacts on adolescents, girls and womenfolk as a whole in the society.
Civil society members Kazi Moniruzzman, Rita Sarker, Prova Devi, Abul Kalam, Khadija Parveen, Shahidul Islam, Mizanur Rahman Mitul, NGO representatives Mizanur Rahman, Rawshan Ara, Julekha Begum, Archana Rani and Saiful Islam, addressed.
The speakers said sustainable national development is not possible without mainstreaming the womenfolk through creating women-friendly atmosphere, eradicating gender disparity and changing the social mindset.
The women have been facing discriminations, repressions and violence everywhere for lack of adequate social awareness, they said and suggested for establishing gender equality at all levels.
