Successful implementation of National Nutrition Service stressed
 
RANGPUR, April 29 (BSS) - Speakers at a policy dissemination meeting have urged all concerned for successful implementation of National Nutrition Service (NNS) programme to prevent malnutrition of all people including babies, children and women.

They were addressing 'Dissemination and Policy Directive
Meeting for Implementation of National Nutrition Service'
programme on Saturday at Chilmari Upazila Health Complex in
Kurigram district.

Director General of Health Services, NNS and Chilmari
Upazila Health Complex jointly organised the meeting under the
auspices of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with
Kurigram Civil Surgeon Dr Reazul Islam in the chair.

Chilmari Upazila Chairman Shawakat Ali Sarker, Bir Bikram,
attended the meeting as the chief guest.

Upazila Vice-chairman Marjina Begum, Deputy Director of the
Family Planning Department Dr Shamsuddoha, UNO Mamun-Ul-Hassan
and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Mottasim Billah
Azad attended as the special guests.

Deputy Civil Surgeon of Kurigram Dr Lokman Hossain narrated
various statistics on the nutrition situation at the local,
regional and national levels and objectives of the programme in
meeting to meet nutrition demand for all.

The speakers put especial emphasis on creating awareness and
disseminating knowledge among the rural people with proper
suggestions for selecting and consuming nutritious foodstuffs
including vegetables.

The rate of the neo-natal, maternal, baby and child
mortalities could be reduced further through preventing
deficiency of protein, vitamins, iodine, iron, mineral among
babies, children, adolescents and pregnant women, they said.

They narrated the complications of malnutrition and
suggested ways for attaining balanced nutrition for the people of
all ages through successful implementation of the comprehensive
NNS programme.
