RAJSHAHI, Sept 17,2012 (BSS)- A local court here today has sentenced a person to death on charge of killing a baby- Fahmida Khatun (3) - in Tanore Upaizla of the district last year.
The convict was identified as Amzad Hossain of Narial
village of the same upazila.
Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Ekramul Haque Chowdhury
pronounced the verdict in his presence in a jam-packed courtroom
at around 12 noon as the convict was found guilty of the murder
charge without any doubt.
Another accused of the case- local UP member Shafiqul Islam-
was acquitted as the charge brought against him couldn't be
proved beyond doubt.
According to the prosecution story, in brief, is that a
conflict had been continuing between Ziaur Rahman, father of
Fahmida Khatun, and his neighbour Amzad Hossain over a disputed
land for long. As sequel to the previous enmity, on December 24,
2011, Amzad Hossain chopped Fahmida Khatun to death before her
father in broad-day-light.
Father of the victim had lodged a murder case with Tanore
Police Station against the two persons.
The tribunal examined recorded depositions of 21 prosecution
witnesses and relevant other evidences before pronouncing the
aforesaid verdict in 85 working days.
Special Public Prosecutor Entazul Haque Babu appeared in the
case on behalf of the state while Advocates Ashraf Ali and Mokbul
Hossain Ranhu defended the accused.
