RANGPUR, Jan 27, 2013 (BSS) - SKS Foundation with assistance of European Union Humanitarian Office (ECHO) and CARE Bangladesh distributed 2,600 blankets among 1,300 cold-hit distressed
families in Ulipur upazila of Kurigram yesterday and today.
Under the programme, 1,400 blankets were distributed among 700 cold-hit distressed families with two pieces blankets for each family of Gunaigachh, Thetrai, Pandul, Dharanibari, Dhamsreni, Duragpur and Tabakpur unions in the upazila yesterday.
Besides, more 1,200 blankets were distributed today among 600 cold-hit and distressed families living in the remote and hardly reachable char villages under Bozra, Hatia, Begumganj, Buraburi, Doldoliya and Saheber Alga unions in the same upazila.
Programme Manager of Souhardo-II Programme of SKS Foundation Samir Kumar Das said the blankets were distributed mainly among elderly people, children, disabled, pregnant and lactating women, distressed freedom fighters and divorcees.
Ulipur upazila chairman Kafil Uddin, all union parishad chairmen, Infrastructure Officer of CARE Bangladesh Jiban Chandra Paul, its Programme Officer Shishil Kumar Das, Food Monitors Mamun Mian and Kamruzzaman were present in the distribution ceremonies arranged at different places.
Technical Officer of Souhardo-II Programme of SKS Foundation Golam Rabbani, its Filed Managers Feroz Akhter, Rinju Ara and Nayan Moni Sarker, Technical Officers Ranjit Kumar Paul, Rezwanul Karim, Moshiur Rahman, Motlebur Rahman, Mokaddes Ali and Feroz Kabir were present.
Members of the Upazila and Union Disaster Management Committees, Upazila and Union Development Committees, union parishad members and local elite were also attended the blanket distribution ceremonies.
