SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 29 (BSS) -The Jatiya Sangsad today passed two bills bringing remunerations of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and members of the parliament under the tax net.
The bills are-Speaker and Deputy Speaker (Remuneration and Privileges) (Amendment) Bill, 2012 and Members of Parliament (Remuneration and Allowances) (Amendment) Bill, 2012.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed moved the bills in the House that were later passed in voice votes.
Placing the bills, the minister said the bills are aimed at removing anomalies in the imposition of taxes on the income of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and parliament members with the general people.
Meanwhile, Forest and Environment Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud placed two separate bills--Forest (Amendment) Bill-2012 and Forest Conservation Bills-2012- in the House.
Placing "The Forest (Amendment) Bill-2012", the minister said the bill was introduced in the House for bringing necessary amendments to The Forest Act, 1927 for development and preservation of forests and natural resources as well as expediting the forest conservation activities.
Mentioning the objectives of "The Forest Conservation Bills-2012", he said the bill is aimed making the forest conservation and ecological diversity system more effective and preventing tree felling to protect forest land for preserving environment.
Later, the bills were sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Forests and Environment for scrutiny and reporting back to the House.
