Lawmakers criticizes Begum Zia's remarks

SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 01 (BSS) - The ruling party lawmakers today came down heavily on the Leader of the Opposition and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for her recent remarks that they (BNP) would make the government lame and cripple.

They also urged the BNP lawmakers to return to the
parliament, which is the center for discussion over all important
issues.

Taking part in the general discussion on the thanks giving
motion on the President's Speech in the Jaitya Sangsad, the
lawmakers accused the BNP and Jamaat of preparing new tricks to
foil the ongoing war crimes' trail and deteriorate the law and
order across the country.

They underscored the need for united efforts of all in
building a hunger-free digital Bangladesh under the leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

They lauded President's speech on the first day of the 12th
session of the 9th parliament and said, "The President, a veteran
language hero and politician, in his speech, highlighted
different successful steps of the government in last three
years."

"The President in the speech has given a guideline to the
nation and the political leaders for achieving a self-reliant
digital Bangladesh," they added.

The treasury bench MPs on the 17th day of their discussions
on the President's speech bitterly criticized the opposition
chief and her party leaders for carrying out propaganda against
Sheikh Hasina and her government.

"BNP will be not be able to topple the government as it
assumed office after a landslide victory in the last general
election," said the state Minister for Home affairs Shamsul Haque
Tuku.

He claimed that the law and order in the country is almost
satisfactory at present as there was no militant attack in last
three years.

Among others, treasury bench lawmakers - Muhammad Ziaur
Rahman, Manjur Quader Quraeshi, Sarah Begum Begum Kabori, Alhajj
Prof Dr M A Mannan, Md Shafiqul Islam and H M Golam Raza from
Jatiya Party took part in the discussion.
