PM for free movement of labour force from developing countries

SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 1 (BSS)- Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today called for free movement of workforce of developing countries by expanding manpower markets to developed countries.

She said this when visiting Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi called on her at her Sangsad Bhaban Office here this evening.

"We have skilled manpower and for development we need easy and free access of our skilled workforce to the market of other countries," she said.

"We can carry out our own development programmes without foreign aid provided we can boost up our manpower export," she said.

PM's Deputy Press Secretary Nazrul Islam briefed reporters after the meeting.

Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Sheikh M Wahid Uz Zaman were present on the occasion.

UNCTAD Secretary General informed the Prime Minister of the preparation of 13th UNCTAD conference and ensuing Women in Development Conference and World Investment Forum Summit to be held in Doha in April next.

The Prime Minister is expected to attend the three-day conference from April 21, Nazrul Islam said.

Referring to flourishment of agro-based and food processing industries in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina called for free and broader access of its products to developed countries' market.

She also highlighted the social safety net programme of Bangladesh and various training programmes undertaken by public and private sector to create skilled manpower suiting to global needs.

UNCTAD Secretary General appreciated the socio-economic
development of Bangladesh and its success in maintaining a
moderate growth for last few years despite constant global
economic recession.
