SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 4 (BSS) - A total of 23,538 illegal gas connection lines were cut off in last fiscal year, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Mohammad Enamul Haque said here today.
He disclosed the fact in the Jatiya Sangsad while replying
to a scripted question from treasury bench member Sadhana Haldar.
Responding to a question from treasury bench member Momtaz
Begum, the minister said the country is facing gas deficiency by
436 million cubic feet at present.
"No new gas connection is possible in the country until the
gas production reaches 2,200 million cubic feet level," Enamul
The minister, in reply to a written query from ruling party
lawmaker Molla Jalal Uddin, said gas is being supplied through
pipeline to 26 districts now.
With a view to overcoming existing power deficit, the
authority concerned has signed agreement with 16 rental companies
for some 1,489 megawatt electricity at 18 places, Enamul Hauqe
said replying to a query from A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon from
"In the meantime, a total of 1039-megawatt electricity from
14 centers has been added in the national grid. Besides, three
other power generation centers will go into production by March
this year," he said.
The State Minister also said that other power generation
centers with the production capacity of 100 megawatt electricity
remained suspended due to a High Court order.
