SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 5 (BSS)-Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said the government has framed and is implementing an updated education policy to make a knowledge and technology based Bangladesh through building a skilled manpower.
"We are pledged bound to bring all children under the coverage of the education and ensure modern education system based on new technology and morality to build a skilled leadership," the minister said while taking part in the general discussion on the thanks giving motion on the President Zillur Rahman's speech to the House on January 25.
"A basic and qualitative change in the education standard is a must to ensure time-befitting education in Bangladesh, " the minister said.
Referring to some development activities taken by his ministry, Nahid said due to the government's pragmatic steps, the number of school going student rose to over 96 percent at present. "The number of drop out has sharply reduced as well," he added.
He said the government has successfully ensured the supply of books to the primary and high school level students on the first day of the academic year. "Beside, examinations dates of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Scholl Certificate have been fixed and results of those will be published within 60 days after the examination under a uniform syllabus across the country.
Criticizing the BNP-Jamaat rule, the education minister said
the Awami League-led grand alliance government has taken initiatives to develop madrasa education.
"In the mean time, the government has constructed 1000 madrasa buildings across the country and also introduced honours course at 31 madrasas. The government has a plan to establish Arabic university in the country considering the demand of alim- ulema," he mentioned.
