Earlier on February 27, 2012, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid placed the bill, which also aims to improve the standard of the education.

While placing the bill, the education minister proposed establishing the trust as a statutory body with its headquarters in Dhaka. Earlier on December 12, the cabinet approved the draft of the bill.

Under the Prime Minister's Education Assistance Trust Bill, the poor students of schools, colleges and universities would be given financial assistance to continue their studies.

In the bill, a proposal was made to form a trustee board with the Prime Minister as its chief patron to conduct activities of the trust.

Besides, a five-member advisory council would be formed to assist the trustee board.

Apart from this, the bill proposed formation of a 20-member trustee board headed by the education minister for a three-year term.

The objectives of the bill included providing education to the students from class-six to class 12 free of cost, involving government and non- government organizations and affluent persons in society in educational activities, preventing school dropouts and ensuring quality of education.
